Its Thursday night in London and Become are off to the DBA Effectiveness Awards 2014. As proud sponsors of the DBA we were excited to be invited to the swanky bash held at the stylish Tobacco Dock. Not only is it a perfect excuse to get our party frocks on, it is also (and more importantly!) a fantastic opportunity to support the London design industry that we feel closely connected with and to learn more about the campaigns that shaped 2013 and are driving the 2014 creative scene.
The DBA are fast becoming a reputable and desirable awards ceremony. Not only do they recognise the importance of effective design within business, but they provide compelling proff that design can effectively drive businesses forward and in most cases lead companies to success. The night was shaped by nineteen categories and sixty nine awards, all of which were delivered with a perfect amount of charm and wit by the fabulous Simon Jack, our glittering albeit slightly tipsy host for the night.
The award categories ranged from product design, to packaging design across drink and food – the alcohol packaging award being presented by our very own Martin King (happy coincidence!) - to experiential environment design, brand identity and information design. Thus, encompassing a broad spectrum in design and innovation.
As the night continued with more winners being announced and champagne corks a’popping, we were happy to find that our table mates were up for the crème de la crème ‘Grand Prix’ award of the night - the agency B&B and their client Bear – the family focused healthy snack brand. Bear, which was created by a fruit obsessed husband and wife team have (with the creative vision of B&B) gone from a simple idea dreamed up in in Starbucks, to a multi million pound business with a human rights interest at its core. Bringing healthy food to all children, not just those in the UK and taking responsibility for their environmental impact. Worthy winners, we were delighted for them!
As the night drew to a close and the winners collected their coats and trophies we headed for our taxi, filled with the joys of a brilliant night and still seeking that final night cap in the cobbled streets of Wapping. Big thanks to the DBA, we had a wonderful night and to all the winners, who were gracious, creative and innovative to the end.
