We officially opened our HK office doors on the 3rd April 2014. Hello Hong Kong town. We partnered up with Mumbrella Asia and sponsored their first Question Time debate held at the Kee Club in Central.
It was an intimate event with around about 45 attendees of industry professionals from marketing firms, entrepreneurs, agency guys, marketing teams from large finance houses. A broad range of industry people.
The evening started with a brief registration, meet and greets, and then straight into the Question Time, hosted by Robin Hicks, Mumbrella Asia Editor.
The theme of the debate was the issues and contradictions affecting the industry, and on the panel were Ruth Rowan, Chief Marketing Officer at BT for Apac, Middle East and Africa. She is also the founder of The Marketing Society Asia. Alongside her was Aaron Lau, Greater China CEO of Cheil Worldwide, Lau quickly took over the China operations after the agency he founded, Bravo Asia, was acquired by Cheil in late 2102, before Bravo, Lau was president of DDB Apac; Wayne Arnold, global CEO of Lowe Profero, Arnold co-founded digital agency Profero more than 15 years ago and this year sold what was the worlds largest independent digital agency to IPG to form Lowe Profero. The 4th person joining the panel was Rob Hughes, CEO of the North Asia operation of media agency Dentsu Aegis Network, Hughes joined the company mid-way in 2013 from Mindshare, another media agency competitor in the WPP group.
The questions covered issues such as what do clients look for in there agencies, how do we tackle the talent gap, the same old topic of how to balance work and life, how to retain your employees, how PR was handled for the missing MH370 Malaysia flight, the ins-and-outs of the PR, media, advertising and PR sectors. The panel spoke from their own experiences and what changes they have seen in their professional time and the Apac market and suggestions to improve the issues - a prominent topic for us was the shortage of talent and turnover of employees and how to ensure a happy workforce. Questions were then opened up to the floor before networking and canapés.
All in all, a great night partnering with Mumbrella, meeting the panel speakers, and leaving food for thought.
